George Russell finished P3 in qualifying despite beaching his Mercedes early in Q3. Luckily for the Briton, it meant that the red flag was brought out, and as the session was stopped the rain started coming down, meaning no one else could improve. When speaking to Sky Sports after the fact, here is what he had to say.

"Firstly, to be P3 and I am happy for Kevin. He did an awesome job and Haas." The young driver was obviously happy for the elder statesman as Kevin Magnussen secured his first career pole today, Russell, who caused a red flag which aided the Dane in his pole position charge, continued with this "P3, not necessarily where we want to but a good position to start for tomorrow's Sprint Race."

The Mercedes driver is looking forward to tomorrow's sprint and Sunday's main race as he believes "It's our best opportunity to finish ahead of Max and Red Bull if we have mixed conditions.". If Russell can jump Magnussen or even Max Verstappen in tomorrow's sprint race, he could have a great chance at his first career win or to add another podium trophy to his collection.
