Mattia Binotto is under pressure at the Italian racing stable after Ferrari's disappointing season. Whereas the team started the racing year excellently, results soon deteriorated and it lost its chances of winning the world title. Naomi Schiff and Martin Brundle are therefore discussing with Sky Sports whether the team boss can stay on.

Binotto was frequently praised in recent years for the calmness he brought within Ferrari. At the same time, the team still failed to win the world championship since 2007 and the formation failed again this season.

"He is under an immense amount of pressure," Schiff argues. "They sacrificed some seasons for this year, they just haven't been able to turn it around. I wouldn't say they've fully turned it around yet. It looks like they had to turn their engines down in Mexico. Not sure, but it looks like that. They are still dealing with lots of problems."

No alternative for Binotto

For Brundle, however, it is clear that Ferrari's best option is to continue with Binotto. The Briton argues that there are currently no alternatives and that it is therefore important to support the team boss, although he does feel that the team must perform next season.

"Unless they can find someone they are absolutely certain will do a better job, they might as well go with the guy they know and give him the support," Binotto says. "They haven't won a championship since 2008. They have come up with a very good 2022 car and good motor, they clearly can do it. They haven't used the speed of their drivers and the car very well at all this year."
