Max Verstappen would like to drive a 24-hour race one day and that is music to Fernando Alonso's ears. The two-time F1 champion is open to teaming up with Verstappen in such a race.
Alonso favours team with Verstappen
Alonso has already won the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans twice and sees himself winning this race more often. Although the Spaniard seems far from finished with Formula 1, he is looking forward to a possible collaboration with Verstappen in conversation with De Telegraaf. Speaking to the Dutch newspaper, the Alpine driver says: "I know that one day Max also wants to do endurance race and would like to drive the 24 Hours of Le Mans, for example. I am definitely open to doing that together. We should definitely give that a chance if we can drive for a competitive team."
The dream team of the two two-time F1 champions obviously needs a third driver. Asked if father Jos Verstappen could join, Alonso replied: "At the moment my preference is for Max, haha. But for Jos I also have a lot of respect. Maybe he could then act as team manager." Next year, the first opportunity presents itself, for the two F1 drivers to participate. This is because the 24 Hours of Le Mans takes place on 10 and 11 June. Then F1 will have a week off between the GP of Spain and the GP of Canada.
