Sergio Perez hopes to secure a home victory at the Mexican Grand Prix. However, in the first two free practice sessions, Max Verstappen's team-mate still failed to put the fastest time on the board. The driver did not find Friday's practice sessions representative, he told in the press release from Red Bull Racing.

Indeed, during the first free practice, Perez spun on track. A few hours later, all drivers were instructed to test the Pirelli tyre, which meant it was not possible for drivers to go to the limit with their cars.

"It makes it a little bit more difficult as there are a lot of unknowns again, similar to last weekend," Perez said. "We have very little information, but from what we tried; everything was working okay. Let’s see what we can do come qualifying tomorrow."

Perez in top five twice

Perez managed to finish ahead of Verstappen in both sessions. In the first practice session, he grabbed third place with more than a tenth behind Carlos Sainz, who recorded the fastest time. He then grabbed fifth place with a gap of 1.6 seconds to George Russell.
