Lewis Hamilton is one of the all-time greats behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car, but you won't see him in a 'normal' road car anytime soon. The Briton talks about the stress he gets from driving.
The seven-time world champion was a guest on US talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live after the US Grand Prix. There, the Mercedes driver spoke to the talk show host about his knighthood, his path to Formula 1 and also told a few things about his private life. For instance, the Brit revealed more about the fact that he doesn't actually like driving at all. For a racing driver of his calibre, that is remarkable to say the least.
Hamilton exclusively likes driving fast
Kimmel asked Hamilton if he had come to the studio by car. Hamilton: "No I don't like driving. People often ask me, but I don't like driving at all if I'm not going fast." People who drive with Hamilton in the car don't get nervous about his presence, according to the Briton: "I'm a good passenger. I actually only drive when I go to visit my parents. I prefer to give the keys to my friends."
The reason why the seven-time F1 champion does not like driving? Hamilton: "I don't like traffic. It's very stressful for me." The only other times Hamilton can be found on the motorway is in his Mini Cooper. By his own admission, he sometimes drives through his birthplace (Stevenage) and likes to take 'a trip down memory lane' there without too many spectators and with little traffic.
