International media: Verstappen reels in Hamilton and takes win
- GPblog.com
Christian Horner's face after Max Verstappen's victory in the US Grand Prix reflected on what an emotional weekend it was for Red Bull Racing. The international press lived it up and savoured the battles on the track.
The Guardian - United Kingdom
The British medium writes that Verstappen reeled in Lewis Hamilton in Texas, claiming victory at the US Grand Prix. "After a trying and emotional time for Red Bull a win for Max Verstappen at the US Grand Prix was surely the release he and his team required." The Guardian paid particular attention to Hamilton's chances, stating that Hamilton's race was the first real battle of the season with his rival.
Gazzetta dello Sport - Italy
The Italians of Gazzetta write that "Verstappen beat Hamilton (again)" and are happy that at least another Ferrari could be found on the podium. "Verstappen against Hamilton, partly a repeat of the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP, in which the Briton had to defend and the Dutchman attacked." Gazzetta further summed up the race: "Red Bull's championship is the big story at the American circuit in Austin. It was a sought-after victory; strongly built up, almost lost, but regained after a fine duel with Hamilton."
Marca - Spain
The Spanish Marca writes that Verstappen is doing it in America in the name of Dieter Mateschitz. In addition, Marca observes that Fernando Alonso showed magic with a broken Alpine. There is less awe of the FIA at the Spanish newspaper. It says: "Max dedicates his 13th win to his former boss who died on Saturday. Carlos Sainz was run off by George Russell. Alonso received a penalty from the FIA after he drove his damaged car from P16 to P7 with a memorable race."
L'Equipe - France
At L'Equipe they are also impressed with the race winner at COTA: "Nothing can stop Max Verstappen. Even if Red Bull doesn't do the pit stop properly and forces him into an unexpected comeback, he sucks up Leclerc and Hamilton to take his 13th win of the season." The French medium looks forward to the final three races, in which Verstappen has the chance to break Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel's record of 13 race wins in a season.
Bild - Germany
Bild.de headlines on its website: "Emotional World Championship in Austin", with the subtitle: "But Verstappen is toxic to his team". Bild is impressed with Verstappen who still took victory despite a poor pit stop that lasted 11 seconds. "Verstappen wins the US GP and Red Bull wins the championship. Last race, Verstappen became the champion and now his team has its second title of the year in for the first time since 2013."
