The battle for the world title had already been decided in the 2022 Formula 1 season, but the fight for second place continues unabated. Red Bull Racing will prefer to get Sergio Perez in that second spot, but the battle with Charles Leclerc is very close.

With his victory, Max Verstappen runs further ahead in the championship he has already won. However, a very exciting battle for P2 is taking place between Perez and Leclerc, between whom the gap is only two points in Leclerc's favour. However, the two have already swapped places several times in the standings.

Behind them, George Russell and Carlos Sainz seemed to be approaching, but the gap to Perez and Leclerc is now quite large. They, therefore, looked set to fight it out for fourth place, a battle in which Russell gave himself an advantage by putting an end to Sainz's race as early as the first corner. As a result - combined with his second-place finish - Lewis Hamilton has now caught up with the Spaniard.

Drivers' standings after GP United States*

*Fernando Alonso initially had 71 points after his seventh-place finish in the United States Grand Prix, but lost his points due to the heavy penalty imposed on him by the stewards following the protest filed by Haas. As a result, the Spaniard is now back on 65 points.
