Logan Sargeant will make his Formula 1 debut as a Williams driver in 2023, provided the American accumulates enough super licence points. Team boss Jost Capito announced on Saturday in Austin that the American will become Alexander Albon's new teammate next season.

It seemed to have been coming for a while, but now it is official: Formula 2 driver Sargeant will make the switch to F1 as a driver at Williams in 2023. The American will replace Nicholas Latifi. Nyck de Vries was also a candidate for the seat, but the Dutchman has signed a contract with AlphaTauri. Therefore, Sargeant will now get the chance to step into the Williams.

No official super licence yet

However, Sargeant does not yet have a super licence. The driver therefore still needs to accumulate some points to be sure of the seat, but with two extra free practice sessions and the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi, it seems almost a certainty that Sargeant will have enough points in Abu Dhabi.
