Sebastian Vettel is looking forward to his departure from Formula 1. The Aston Martin driver is on his last four races in the sport and tells Motorsport-total that he is looking forward to his retirement.

With his four world titles, Vettel is the second most successful driver on the grid currently. But the last of those four titles dates back to 2013, and since then he has failed to match the successes of his Red Bull period. The past two seasons at Aston Martin in particular have been somewhat of a struggle at the back of the field.

That has changed somewhat recently, though. Aston Martin has made steady progress and now seems to have a serious chance of finishing sixth among constructors. Still, this slow progress is no reason for Vettel to stay.

"It's no secret: of course we would have liked to have been a bit faster in the two years and we would have liked to have had a better car, but it's slowly getting better." Staying on as a test driver to help the team is not something Vettel sees as an option.

'I'm looking forward to what's coming next'

After an emotional farewell to Suzuka over the board radio at the Japan race, Vettel is now looking ahead to the end. He cannot promise the same reaction after the final race in Abu Dhabi, but says he is looking forward to his farewell to the sport.

"I am looking forward to it. It's not that I completely hate Formula 1 now and am waiting to finally get out. But I have made the decision and I am looking forward to what is to come."
