Ferrari outperformed Red Bull Racing at the beginning of the season, but the Austrian formation managed to turn this around at lightning speed. While in part the car's aerodynamics played a part in this success, Red Bull also had a big advantage over its rival in another area, according to Motorsport.com.

Indeed, Red Bull's secret would be in the heat management of the brakes. Because of the new regulations and with them the arrival of 18-inch rims, the teams had to make some adjustments to the car. In doing so, Red Bull managed to find a clever way to control the temperature of the tyres.

With an internal brake disc fairing, the Austrians managed to reduce overheating, while Ferrari opted for another option. Namely, the Italian racing stable made the brake drum a lot bigger. It is an example that Alpine, Aston Martin and Haas have followed.

Competing Ferrari with Red Bull

As Ferrari's tyres overheat quickly, the team has a clear advantage over Red Bull in qualifying this year. It was therefore the rule rather than the exception in 2022 that Charles Leclerc managed to secure pole position.

In the race, however, Ferrari suffers a lot of tyre degradation due to overheating, giving Red Bull a strategic advantage over its direct rival. According to the medium, it should therefore look at other solutions with the brakes to be able to compete for the world title next season.
