After the 2022 F1 season, Sebastian Vettel will bid farewell to Formula 1. The four-time World Champion is already looking back on his glittering racing career and has picked his strongest opponent.

Hamilton and Alonso gave Vettel a hard time

At Red Bull Racing, Vettel became the youngest ever F1 champion in 2010. Max Verstappen tried to break the record but failed. Vettel picked up another three in a row after his first title, making the German one of the greatest drivers in F1 history. In an interview on the website of his current team Aston Martin, he reflected on his strongest rivals in recent years.

Vettel: "Lewis Hamilton, especially when I was driving at Ferrari. Lewis was always right there. Before that, my strongest rival was probably Fernando Alonso when he was at Ferrari." The latter will take over the seat at Aston Martin F1 from Vettel next year. Vettel: "Fernando doesn't need any advice. I don't even know if he takes advice, but he doesn't need it anyway."

What lies ahead for Vettel

The soon-to-be retired F1 driver recently made his entry on social media with an Instagram account. On that account, he also immediately announced his departure, but in the weeks that followed, the German seemed to repeatedly give hints about what lies ahead for him. Despite his departure from F1, Vettel says there is still a race to be won. His motto, which can be found under almost everything he posts on social media, probably involves a commitment to conservation of the climate. In addition, on his page we can all see pictures and videos from the past and Vettel has announced a 'mysterious' project.
