Christian Horner is experiencing another period of glory at Red Bull Racing after the years of success with Sebastian Vettel. The British team boss saw Max Verstappen take his second world title in Japan and is therefore still happy he brought the Dutchman to the formation in 2016.
Jos Verstappen's son joined Toro Rosso in Formula 1 a year earlier. There, he did so well that the Austrian formation decided to transfer him to Red Bull. According to Horner, it was immediately clear how great Verstappen's talent was.
"Verstappen emerged as an exciting, determined character," Horner told in the podcast Diary of a CEO. "You will not meet a more determined personality or driver than more commitment and passion than Max. The team just had this inner belief, pushing all the boundaries. Operating at a level that was taking us out of our comfort zone."
"Whether that be world record pit stops, aggressive and attacking strategies, taking calculated risks with high risk high reward. We had the attitude of we got nothing to lose, we got to throw everything at this. In the end of it came down to desire, that there was more desire and the we dealt with the massive pressure in a together manner."
Horner has big ambitions with Red Bull
According to Horner, Verstappen has everything he needs to keep competing for the world title in the coming years. In doing so, the team leader is confident that Red Bull is capable of continuing to provide the driver with a good car.
