The Grand Prix weekend in Japan is underway and, with the second free practice, the most important practice is just around the corner. However, the question is how much the teams and drivers can learn during a test for Pirelli. Don't miss any of the on-track action with this live blog from GPblog.

FP2 is normally the session where drivers and teams get ready for qualifying and the race. The session takes place at the same time as qualifying and the race and so conditions are similar. However, the situation will be different in Japan, as Pirelli has been given this practice to test prototype tyres for 2023.

Pirelli's test

The session will last an hour and a half because of this test, but the drivers will have to devote this time entirely to Pirelli's test. So whether much can be done on setup or qualifying and race runs remains to be seen. Only drivers who had to cede their spot to a rookie in FP1 will be allowed to run their own programme for half an hour, the other drivers will be seen on Pirelli's colourless tyres for the entire session. Update: Given the rain, F1 cancelled this test.

The second free practice session for the Japanese Grand Prix starts at 15:00 local time. You won't miss anything of the latest news. Unlike normal, the session lasts an hour and a half as part of Pirelli's test.
