If it is up to Fernando Alonso, Max Verstappen can definitely count himself among Formula 1's greats after winning his second world title. Reacting, Verstappen in turn has nothing but praise for the talent of Alonso, who with a bit of luck could possibly have won many more championships.

Verstappen was grateful for the compliment Alonso paid him, but was quick to point out that his track record in F1 would look very different if he had had a bit more luck with the material he drove in the past few years. "In F1, you need a bit of luck, and you need to have the luck that you make the right decision and then have a dominant car for a long time," the Dutchman is quoted by Crash.net.

Verstappen praises Alonso's performance

He continued: "I mean, obviously, if you would have put Fernando in the cars where other people have won championships with, he would have done the same. But that's not how F1 works." Alonso had little luck with the choices he made after winning two world titles, which he succeeded in at a young age.

Nevertheless, the Spaniard certainly has nothing to be ashamed of for his excellent record in the king class of motorsport. Moreover, he is still regarded by many experts as one of the most talented F1 drivers ever. "At the end of the day, he still won two titles so I think he's done very well for himself. And he's also a great guy and a great personality for F1," Verstappen concluded.
