Alexander Albon will get back behind the wheel of the Williams in Singapore. The driver contracted appendicitis in Italy and had to miss the race at Monza as a result. Nyck de Vries was his replacement at the time.

Albon back in action

Albon has recovered from his appendicitis suffered at the last Grand Prix in Italy. The Thai driver was taken to hospital for treatment at the time and even spent some time in intensive care. In Williams' press release, Albon informs that he will return to action on Friday at the Singapore Grand Prix.

"Firstly, I’d just like to thank everyone for all their messages and support over the Italian Grand Prix weekend. My preparation for Singapore has been a little different than normal but I’m feeling good and I’ve done everything possible to get ready for one of the most physical races on the calendar. I am not underestimating how big of a challenge this is going to be, but I am looking forward to hitting the track on Friday and getting back driving. It’s a great street circuit and the closest race to home for me in Thailand, so I’m really excited to be here and to see the fans that have turned out."

In Italy, Albon was replaced by De Vries, who was making his debut in an official Formula One race. The Dutchman drove a very good race with the team and immediately managed to score two points. De Vries still seems to have a chance of getting a permanent seat at Williams in 2023, especially now that the team has revealed that Nicholas Latifi will not take a seat in the car. The Dutchman will be present at the circuit this weekend just in case Albon is not fit enough after all to race.
