Franz Tost had a harsh word with Yuki Tsunoda after the Italian Grand Prix, who the AlphaTauri team boss said would do well to show more discipline.

Penalties piled up for Tsunoda

The penalties piled up for Tsunoda at Monza, who could add another three places to his original ten-place grid penalty for ignoring yellow flags during the second free practice session. His team boss was less than impressed, calling Tsunoda's behaviour 'not smart'.

Tost remains supportive of his driver, but feels he needs to learn to control himself better. "He has just to get under control his emotions and he must be more disciplined because to ignore a yellow flag in FP2 is not clever," the team boss is quoted by The Race. "I understand that it’s difficult in qualifying, or maybe sometimes in the race, but in a free practice session you in any way have to accept yellow flags and have to react in the correct way, which means you have to slow down."

Tsunoda is having an uneven season and finished no further than fourteenth at Monza. Meanwhile the Japanese driver is still waiting for news about his contract, which has not yet been set for 2023. However, both Tost and Helmut Marko have repeatedly expressed their desire to keep Tsunoda at AlphaTauri.
