Charles Leclerc hoped to treat the Ferrari fans to a victory at the Italian Grand Prix, but he failed. Starting from pole position, he fell short of second place and had to concede victory to Max Verstappen. It was a disappointment afterwards.

The Italian team tried to make up the difference with a two-stop effort, but Leclerc was unable to catch up with Verstappen. After it became clear that the drivers behind the safety car would finish the race, Leclerc knew he had to settle for second place.

"The end was frustrating. I wish we could have ended up racing," Leclerc hinted after the safety car following Daniel Ricciardo's problems. "Unfortunately we were second at that point because of what happened earlier. It's a shame. I gave everything."

Fears at Leclerc for chances

Ferrari, therefore, sees Verstappen win again, further widening the gap in the world championship. Leclerc fears his team will struggle for the rest of the season, as Ferrari are unable to find much extra speed for the time being. "I don't know," he said.
