Max Verstappen had to cope without his father during the first two racing days in the Netherlands. Jos Verstappen was informed just before the Dutch Grand Prix that he had the coronavirus and therefore could not travel to Zandvoort. Giedo van der Garde brings positive news at Viaplay.
The former Formula 1 driver spoke with Jos Verstappen and heard that he is fully recovered. "Jos is completely healthy again," says Van der Garde. "He is completely better again and negative. He will come and see his son tomorrow. That is fantastic news of course."
On Saturday afternoon, he did miss his son's glorious drive to pole position during qualifying. The Dutchman had to pull out all the stops to beat Charles Leclerc in Q3 and was two hundredths of a second quicker than the Monegasque, giving him a good starting position.
Tribute from Verstappen to his father
Verstappen decided earlier to drive around the Dutch Grand Prix wearing a special helmet to honour his father. The design is very reminiscent of the helmet Jos Verstappen used on the track for many years. The gesture could count on a lot of enthusiasm.
