Max Verstappen has grabbed his seventeenth pole position in the Belgian qualifying. The Dutchman was supreme, nobody could come close to his 1:43.665. Carlos Sainz conceded six tenths, but will start the Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps from first position due to grid penalties.

The difference between Verstappen and Perez is striking. The Mexican veteran was about eight-tenths of Verstappen's pace, actually far too much. Charles Leclerc only did one run and was sent off on the wrong tyres, another strategic mistake by Ferrari. The number two of the world championship set the fourth fastest time.

Behind them were the two Alpines and the two Mercedes cars. Impressive is also the performance of Alexander Albon. The driver set the ninth time on Saturday afternoon in a Williams.
