Hamilton can't pinpoint what is wrong
Spa was supposed to be a turning point for Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes as new regulations were brought in and they'd be closing in on the top two teams, but perhaps it's been two steps forward, one step back for the seven-time world champion. As both he and his teammate George Russell struggles in free practice so far. Even finished behind Lance Stroll in an Aston Martin during the second session of the day.
Continued lack of pace
When Hamilton spoke to the press at the end of the day "I want to assume the same thing (asked if they were heavier this afternoon). I would say "no" we are just not very quick. I don't know why. I really don't know" he started off, continuing "we went out and gave it everything that we've got & it could be tyres, could be pressured, could be wing level, It could be a multitude of things. It doesn't feel disastrous out there it's just that we are long way off. We often find this on a Friday, and then things change on Saturday. I hope that is the case."
Once again Hamilton, Russell and Mercedes may have a long night trying to figure out what to do next and close the gap to the front of the grid, as they will want as much pace as possible, with Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc starting from the back, giving them the best chance of victory yet this year.
