With the announcement of Audi there was actually immediate clarity about the future of Porsche. The secret (that Porsche is going to cooperate with Red Bull Racing) that actually wasn't a secret any more, was already revealed at the press conference of Audi.

Volkswagen Group with two teams

It has been clear for some time now that the Volkswagen Group will enter Formula 1 from 2026 with two brands. Porsche and Audi both want to enter the sport, but each in their own way. Still, it is remarkable that two brands under one and the same umbrella will soon be competing in the same competition.

Although Porsche has not yet officially announced that it will enter F1, it became clear at Audi's press conference. Asked why a partnership between Audi and Porsche was not chosen, Markus Duesmann explained why the two parties will be working separately.

Audi and Porsche are going to compete

''That was a huge discussion. Both our brands have a lot of fans and a special character. That's why we decided to keep it separate and do two operations'', said Duesmann at Audi's press event in Belgium. The conclusion is that Porsche will also enter F1 in 2026, most probably in cooperation with Red Bull Racing.

While Red Bull and Porsche will develop the engine side-by-side in Milton Keynes, Audi will work on an engine itself. This will also be specially made for the Audi chassis. That is also an important reason for Audi and Porsche not to work together. ''We will have different teams and the power train has to be designed special for the chassis and that's why we decided to split it'', concludes the top executive of Audi Sport.
