Sebastian Vettel will leave Formula 1 after 2022. The German has not yet released anything about his specific plans after F1, but other racing categories have already expressed that they would like to see the four-time world champion compete in their sport.

During the weekend before the Hungarian Grand Prix, Vettel announced via his new Instagram account that he will retire after 2022. The Aston Martin driver has had a great career, but no longer gets satisfaction from the results he achieves with the British team.

Whether Vettel has plans to get behind the wheel somewhere else is unclear. In any case, the 35-year-old driver is not yet at the end of his motorsport career. The German also still wants to achieve a lot with his activism. Former F1 driver and Formula E champion Lucas Di Grassi is willing to welcome Vettel into FE with open arms.

Vettel welcome in other classes

"It would be a pleasure to race with him, but I don't think it will happen. Formula E is a very difficult environment, but with the new Gen 3 cars everything is starting again from scratch, so it would be the perfect time for someone to jump in and I'm sure he would be competitive", the FE driver is quoted by Motorbox.

According to Di Grassi, Formula E is a better fit for Vettel, as he actively defends the environment with his projects. "I think a lot of the sustainability talk in F1 doesn't really make a difference, like saying 'don't use fossil fuels' and then being sponsored by Aramco." DTM boss Gerhard Berger has also expressed his interest in Vettel. The German is more than welcome in the sport, but Berger can well imagine that his future will be mainly outside motorsport.
