The Formula E season concludes this weekend with a Double Header in South Korea. Stoffel Vandoorne seems to be on his way to his first world title in FE, but the Mercedes driver is not quite there yet.

No new title for De Vries

On 13 and 14 August, the final two races of the 2021-2022 Formula E season will be held. The Seoul ePrix debuts on the FE calendar with a race through the streets of the Asian country's capital. The battle for the world title seems decided, but it is not quite so.

Vandoorne leads the standings with 185 points and looks set to succeed his teammate as world champion. Nyck de Vries was the first Formula E world champion last season, but has not been able to defend his title this season due to mistakes and bad luck. At P8 with 106 points, he already has no chance of catching up with Vandoorne.

Vandoorne on his way to another title

There are only two drivers left who can overtake the former F1 driver. Mitch Evans is second in the championship on 149 and 36 points behind. Edoardo Mortara also has a chance. He has five points less than Evans. The Jaguar and Venturi drivers have a big task ahead of them as there are only fifty points left to be distributed.

Vandoorne could in theory win the title in the first race in Seoul. A fourth place would already be sufficient for the title. The Belgian only needs twelve points. Considering his season, that doesn't seem too bad. Vandoorne has only finished outside the pointsheets once this season and has been on the podium no less than seven times. However, he only won one race.

To see the season finale, Europeans will have to get out of bed early (or stay up late). The race weekend starts at midnight BST due to the time difference. European viewers have been catered for, as the two races will start at 4pm local time, making it 8am in the UK.
