Alpine is convinced that it can continue to beat Aston Martin, even with Fernando Alonso in its ranks. This is what team boss Otmar Szafnauer says in conversation with Autosport.com.

Alonso turned down the chance to extend his stay at Alpine by signing a multi-year contract with Aston Martin, securing his future in Formula One until at least the end of 2024. However, the Spaniard's performance seems to be significantly down, with his current team currently fourth in the Constructors' Championship with 99 points. This compares to Aston Martin's ninth place, which has not yet managed to collect more than twenty points.

Alpine in good shape

Szafnauer, who until the beginning of this year was the team boss of the Silverstone-based team, is confident that Alpine will stay ahead of its regular rival. He knows both teams very well, and Aston Martin perhaps even better than his current team. Szafnauer also realises that his former team has big plans.

"But as we sit here today, this team is performing at a much higher level. It's hard to predict the future, but in the near future, for sure this team will continue to perform at that level, if not better," says the Alpine team boss. He is confident that his team will be able to keep beating Aston Martin, even after Alonso has joined them.
