Hamilton: "Reliability is one thing my team have been amazing at"
In his 300th Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton achieved his best result of the 2022 F1 season by securing P2. Hamilton shared the podium with his younger teammate and Mercedes gained a huge amount of points on Ferrari in the Constructors Championship following Charles Leclerc's crash from the lead.
It wasn't the best of build-ups to the race, but Mercedes once again took their chances following issues ahead of them. Leclerc's mistake bumped Hamilton up to P2. Whilst he couldn't chase down his 2021 title rival, he managed to comfortably take second place.
"That was a tough race, my drinks bottle didn't work. But what a great result, considering we've been so far off this weekend. Reliability is one thing my team has been amazing at. George did an amazing job as well. Budapest, I love it there. It will be hard to beat Ferrari and Red Bulls. Hope we take a step forward to them with another update," Hamilton said in the post-race interviews.
No drink
With temperatures in the 30s, it was a very hot race. A challenge for the tyres with surface temperatures at around 60c, but also tough for all drivers. Hamilton didn't have a drink of water and explains how this alters his weight.
"I didn't see my weight but I imagine about three kilos. It's enough. I am looking forward to downing the rest of this drink," Hamilton added.
