Verstappen makes comparison with Ferrari: 'Always been struggling with it'
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen hopes to have a slight advantage over Ferrari for the French Grand Prix. The rivals have chosen different set-ups, so the race will show which team has made the right choice. Verstappen will certainly hope that the RB18's top speed can help him.
Ferrari have opted for more downforce on the Paul Ricard circuit, while Red Bull are faster on the straights. Yet Verstappen knows his team often have problems with this compared to their rivals.
"We seem again very quick on the straight, which I think is, of course, a nice bonus but I think overall, we need to look a bit into our high speed performance", he says during the press conference.
Verstappen hopes for advantage
It remains to be seen how quickly the tyres degrade in the warm weather. Red Bull's lower downforce setting can hopefully give them an advantage with tyre management. As Ferrari drive with more downforce, this could potentially lead to faster and more aggressive tyre wear.
"Whatever wing we put on the car, we've always been struggling a little bit in high speed compared to Ferrari. But around here, I mean the tyres are going to be like incredibly hot tomorrow and you cannot push the high speed as much as you of course do over a Quali lap. So then, of course, I hope that top speed can help us out a bit more than over a qualifying lap. Where, of course, you also have DRS at some places", Verstappen ends.
