Debate | De Vries deserves a move to Formula 1
- GPblog.com
Nyck de Vries drove a first free practice session in Formula 1 for the second time this season on Friday. In Barcelona he stepped into a Williams car to complete a session, in France he drove a Mercedes car. In it, the Dutchman proved once again that he is ready for a move to Formula 1.
For years, De Vries' name has been on the agenda when it comes to drivers who are eligible for a seat in a motorsport class. In Formula Renault and Formula 2, among others, he has proven his talent, but no team in Formula 1 has yet dared to take him on.
After his performance in France, he received many compliments and that is certainly not an incident, because in the past many others were also enthusiastic about what he showed. A definitive step to Formula 1 seems not to be far away, although practice shows otherwise.
De Vries tries to force a switch
De Vries himself felt on Friday afternoon that he could quickly adapt to the Mercedes car, allowing him to once again showcase himself to Formula One decision-makers. Although the chance, with his 27 years of age, of him making the step seems to be getting smaller and smaller, the driver from Sneek deserves the reward like no other.
Earlier this season it was revealed that Williams was considering parting with Nicholas Latifi and putting De Vries in his place. It is to be hoped that De Vries will make such a move in the future, because despite his ninth place finish Friday he showed once again that he is ready for the big time. And he will certainly not be outdone by the other drivers in Formula 1.
