BMW may enter F1 to compete with German rivals

BMW could be making a return to Formula 1 in the next few years. The German marque may be entering into a deal with McLaren to build road cars and, according to Joe Saward, that could mean BMW returning to F1.
BMW wants to take on rivals
Saward writes on their own website that there are rumours that BMW and McLaren might join forces to build road cars together. It is also suggested that BMW may also return to Formula 1 through McLaren. "In order compete head-on with rivals Mercedes, Porsche and Audi," the journalist writes.
This is not the first time McLaren and BMW will be working together, as the two brands collaborated on McLaren's F1 supercar in the 1990s. "McLaren does not have the money to do its own F1 engine programme, so perhaps falling into bed with BMW might be a good idea."
BMW in Formula 1
BMW, of course, is no unknown name in Formula 1. In the 1980s the German brand supplied engines to Brabham, ATS, Arrows, Benetton and Ligier. Especially with Brabham, many successes were achieved. After 1988 the name BMW disappeared until it made a deal with Williams in 2000. Again many victories were achieved, but no championships were won.
In 2006, BMW decided to buy Sauber and from that year onwards, the team was known as BMW Sauber F1 Team. Robert Kubica managed to win once with the BMW, but no championships were won. After 2009 BMW disappeared from Formula 1.
