Felipe Massa believes that the discussion about a first or second driver at Ferrari is of no importance at the moment. According to the former Ferrari driver, the car needs to be improved first.

Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are at each other's throats at Ferrari. In Austria the two battled for the same place on the track and the discussion about a first and second driver flared up again. According to Massa there is no point in talking about it now.

Pressure on Ferrari

''That is not important right now. Ferrari's biggest problem at the moment is reliability. Before you decide who is the first driver, the car needs to be improved. The next race Carlos can drop out and the next race he can win again. It is difficult to establish a hierarchy in those circumstances'', the Brazilian told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Massa drove for the Italian team between 2006 and 2013 and knows only too well how important the internal struggle is at Ferrari. He was the clear number two behind Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso, but between 2007 and 2009 he and Kimi Raikkonen were given until Belgium to prove themselves. Whether that is still the case at Ferrari today Massa does not know.
