Liam Lawson officially the new reserve driver for Red Bull Racing
- GPblog.com
Following Juri Vips' resignation, Red Bull Racing was left without a reserve driver. That gap has now been filled, as Christian Horner has confirmed that Liam Lawson will take over the position.
The Red Bull Racing PR team has had a rough couple of days. Juri Vips used a racist term during a stream, which was immediately investigated. A few days later Vips was fired as test and reserve driver for Red Bull Racing.
The team has now also appointed a successor to Vips. Christian Horner has revealed that Liam Lawson will take over the position and that other talents are also on hold as backups, reports Formula1.com.
"Liam Lawson is of course taking over that role, following the statement about Juri Vips. Jehan Daruvala is doing great and we are following his progress with interest, as is Dennis Hauger, who are all eligible for super licences. That's our coverage at the moment," says the Red Bull Racing team boss.
Vips will still finish F2 season
Despite being sacked as a Red Bull driver, Juri Vips will not lose his Formula 2 seat. The team he is racing for, Hitech, has said that Vips can finish the season with the team to show what kind of person he is.
However, the team has been criticised for this. The Formula 2 organisation has said that Hitech's decision was 'surprising' and not one that the organisation 'would have taken itself'. Formula 2 continues to monitor the situation closely.
