F1 World Championship standings | Verstappen opens lead on Leclerc & Perez
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen has been able to add another 25 points to the world championship thanks to his victory in the Canadian Grand Prix. Closest competitors Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc just lost a lot of ground and so it is an excellent day for the reigning world champion.
As Leclerc started the race from the nineteenth position, Verstappen knew he could run quite far ahead of the competition in Canada. In addition, Perez had to drop out in the race, so the Dutchman suddenly had an advantage over both competitors. He thus increases his lead in the world championship.
Perez remains in second place, while Leclerc is only three points behind the Mexican. George Russell and Carlos Sainz jointly complete the top five.
*With a penalty, Alonso drops to 18 points. Valtteri Bottas goes to 46 points and Guanyu Zhou goes to 5 points.
