Saturday went disappointingly for Sergio Perez with a crash in Q2, but a day later it was complete drama for the 32-year-old driver. The Mexican seemed to be on his way to scoring good and important points for the world championship, but due to a technical defect, the Canadian Grand Prix came to an end after only eight laps.

"He's lost drive, gearbox issue but we need the car back," Horner revealed to Sky Sports. What the exact cause of the failure is, the team boss of the Austrian racing stable does not yet know. "Disappointing for Checo, he could've been quick out there today."

Two-stop Red Bull?

So the race in Montreal will continue with one Red Bull car. "We just need to get our heads down now and do our best with Max. It could be a two-stopper, particularly for us. Depends how the deg is over the next ten or so laps."

Max Verstappen made a pit stop as early as lap one, trading in his mediums for the hard tire. The race counts 70 laps, so Verstappen faces a big challenge if he wants to cross the finish line with a one-stopper.
