Sergio Perez did not sound entirely satisfied after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Still, the Mexican thinks Red Bull Racing made the right decision by not letting him fight with teammate Max Verstappen.

Perez looked fast all weekend in Baku, but during the race, he found it harder to get going. At the start, the Mexican immediately passed Charles Leclerc, but after the first virtual safety car he lost the pace. In the end, teammate Verstappen was able to overtake him for the win.

That his tyres gave out after the VSC may have been due to the temperature, Perez explains during the FIA press conference. "I'm sure it's something related to it. Probably we lost a bit of temperature on those tyres, at that time, together with some wear. So, we just have to understand what happened."

Perez: 'Max deserved the win'

When Verstappen ended up right behind Perez's car, the Mexican was told over the on-board radio not to fight his teammate. The Red Bull driver believes this was the right decision, as Verstappen was well and truly faster.

"Max, he was clearly a lot faster at that stage of the race. So yeah, it was the right call not to fight because I didn't have any pace at the time and Max deserved to be ahead at that point. We also boxed too late. So, there were a few things that played into the result today, but still at the end of the day, Max deserved the win, because he was the faster car."
