Fernando Alonso loves street circuits, so he can once again have fun during the upcoming Formula 1 weekend in Baku. The Alpine driver sees opportunities in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where qualifying does not have to be all-decisive and overtaking is possible.

As far as Alonso is concerned, there can't be enough street circuits on the Formula One calendar. "I do enjoy them as there is really no margin for error," he says in a press release by Alpine. He is curious to see how the 2022 F1 cars will perform at the Baku City Circuit because there is no real comparison in the form of a similar circuit.

Alonso sees potential in Baku

Unlike Monaco, we are likely to witness some overtaking on the streets of Baku. "It's a track where overtaking is very possible. In my last three races there I’ve managed to gain a number of places during the race so it’s very different to Monaco in that respect," continued the Spaniard.

Although starting position is going to play an important role, according to Alonso, qualifying will not be all-decisive. "Saturdays don't necessarily decide your race and a safety car can completely shake up the order," said the two-time world champion.
