Father Jos Verstappen was outspoken a day after the Monaco Grand Prix: Max Verstappen was not helped by the strategy of his team Red Bull Racing. Verstappen senior felt that the championship leader should have been given priority, giving the reigning titleholder a better chance of victory in the principality.

Team Players

Since Sergio Perez 's win in Monaco, Red Bull suddenly has two drivers in full contention for the championship. A new situation, going back to the Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber era. The former became champion four times with the Austrians. Webber was often on the German's heels, but Vettel still seemed to have the upper hand most of the time. Also from Red Bull, although that was never spoken aloud.

This season, Verstappen and Perez are free to compete with each other. No one will be favored, team boss Christian Horner tells Bloomberg. "At the end of the day, both drivers are team players. They are part of a team. It's not Sergio Pérez Racing or Max Verstappen Racing, it's Red Bull Racing."

Team's ambitions are bigger

For Red Bull, the most important thing is that one of the two men captures the title. Who however? That's up to them at the moment. "They work for the team, they have a responsibility. They drive a car here designed by some 800 employees and produced for them. They are an important link in the chain, but it is important that they realize that the team's ambition is greater than their own," Horner said.
