International media slam Ferrari after Monaco blunder
- GPblog.com
The Monaco Grand Prix was turned on its head by a strategic joust between Red Bull Racing and Ferrari. The Austrians came out as winners, and Ferrari now face a lot of criticism. Here are the reactions of the international media to Sergio Perez's victory in Monte Carlo.
La Gazzetta dello Sport - Italy
'Ferrari give it away themselves with a mistake at the pit stops,' the pink sports newspaper in Italy is clear in its assessment of the Italian's performance. Ferrari will be disappointed with second and fourth place in Monaco, after securing the front row of the grid in qualifying on Saturday. Charles Leclerc went from P1 to P4 due to a strong strategy from Red Bull and a blunder by Ferrari.
Marca - Spain
The Spanish newspaper waxes lyrical about the victory of the Spanish-speaking Perez. It talks about an impossible victory for the Red Bull driver in Monaco, after a miscalculation by Ferrari during the pit stop. Carlos Sainz was still on Perez's tail, but in Monaco you know overtaking will always be difficult.
L'Equipe - France
'Thanks to a winning strategy by Red Bull, Sergio Perez won the Monaco Grand Prix ahead of Carlos Sainz,' the French sports newspaper states. There is talk of two parts of the race, with Ferrari giving it away completely on the transition between the two parts.
The Guardian - England
In England a light is shone on Ferrari's mistake. At The Guardian, they speak of a blunder that killed Leclerc in Monaco, allowing Perez to win on behalf of Red Bull Racing.
Corriere della Sera - Italy
Then back to Italy, as the Corriere della Sera also slams Ferrari after two serious errors in Monaco. First the mistake was made by not bringing Sainz in to cover Perez, then later bringing Leclerc in and coming out behind Perez. Then Ferrari brought both drivers in for hard tyres, but Red Bull drove a lap longer and its drivers gained a place. According to the Italian newspaper, it was therefore not surprising that Leclerc was furious after the race.
