Sergio Perez secured his first victory of the season at the Monaco Grand Prix. After a strategic blunder at Ferrari, the Mexican was able to take the lead, but he had to go to the limit to keep his P1 until the end.
This year's Monaco Grand Prix caused a lot of sensation. It started already with the heavy rain, which delayed the race for an hour. Eventually, the drivers were able to start on the rain tyres.
Perez came in first at the top for new tyres, which eventually proved to be the right choice. Charles Leclerc came in only a few laps later and lost a lot of time as a result, allowing the Mexican to take over the lead. Afterwards, Perez talks about his insane race.
Dream come true for Perez
"It's a dream come true. As a driver, you dream of winning here. After your home race there is no other special place you want to win. To do it and the way we did it.. we just made it a bit harder on ourselves at the end. With the graining I had it was hard not to make a mistake and keeping Carlos behind wasn't easy," the Mexican explained.
The Red Bull driver is now the most successful Mexican driver ever in Formula 1. "I wanted to do another race. The graining was just clearing up. It's a massive day for myself and my country."
