Max Verstappen briefly seemed to be on his way to pole position in Miami in Q3, but in the second run of the final qualifying session, both Ferraris beat him. Verstappen is remarkably positive heading into the United States Grand Prix.

"Overall I am pretty pleased with qualifying," Verstappen said immediately after finishing on the grid. "I did four or five laps yesterday. I still had to learn a lot about the track today. To be that competitive in the car in qualifying is a surprise because this is not an easy track to learn. I think overall you want to be on pole but where we came from its positive but we need to make the weekends less difficult because like this it will be tricky.

So the Dutchman has to come from the second row of the grid and pass two Ferraris if he wants to be on the top step of the podium on Sunday. No easy task, but Verstappen is optimistic. "We have a good chance tomorrow. The top speed is good and the car is going reasonably, so I'm looking forward to that."

On Friday, many drivers complained that it could potentially be a parade, as there is very little grip on the track in Miami. Verstappen is curious to see how it will all unfold. "We have good speed and the car is handling well so I am looking forward [to the race]. Quite slippery outside (racing line) it all depends on how the tyres will behave in the warmer temperatures."
