Formula 1 announced in late March that it will host a Grand Prix in Las Vegas starting in 2023. It's not expected to be the last new circuit to be introduced in the coming years. Sergio Perez thinks that this is a very good development, the Red Bull Racing driver said during an FIA press conference.

Whereas for many years, the same circuits appeared on the calendar, this has now changed. Many countries have applied to organise a race in the future, giving the FIA a wide choice to develop Formula 1 in the coming years. According to Perez, however, the organisation must get their decisions correct.

"We have to make sure that when we go to new venues, to really have some character on the tracks," the Mexican said in the interview. "I felt like some of the new tracks kind of lack a bit of character. So that will be very important."

Battle between Verstappen and Perez

Perez is currently ahead of teammate Max Verstappen in the standings. The Dutchman retired out in Bahrain and Australia with problems with his car, with Perez also failing to finish in Bahrain.
