Max Verstappen seemed to secure pole position on Saturday morning, but in the closing stages of Q3 Charles Leclerc still managed to recapture first place. It caused disappointment for Vestappen, he revealed after qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix.

During the free practices it became clear that Red Bull Racing was struggling to find the right form in the car. As a result, Verstappen was searching for the best possible performance from his car. In qualifying, he also felt this was the case.

"I didn't fel good in the car the whole weekend so far," he states. "There has not been one lap that I felt confident. Second is still a good result, but not feeling that great to go to the limit. We will try to analyze it."

Verstappen is critical of Red Bull performance

His second starting position gives him enough perspective for the race. At the same time, he had hoped for more. "Probably the race pace stabilizes a bit, but so far this weekend has been all over the place. Happy to be second place, but as a team we want more."
