Sergio Perez managed to capture his first pole position of his Formula One career at the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. The Ferraris were also faster in all free practice sessions and in Q1 and Q2, but at the moment suprême the Red Bull Racing driver was the fastest of the entire field. Perez is ecstatic with joy.

"It took me a couple of races. What a lap, man. Unbelievable" Perez told Johnny Herbert on the grid in an initial reaction. Exactly 215 attempts were needed by the veteran to be the fastest on Saturday. "II can do a thousand laps but not that one."

Perez surprises himself

Perez had not seen the pole position coming."We were focussing mainly in the race because we couldn't match the Ferrari's in qualifying but we go it (pole)." he already briefly looked ahead.

Teammate Max Verstappen did not have it on the Jeddah circuit. The Dutchman had a poor first run in Q3 and although the second run was much better, he had to settle for fourth place. The gap to Perez was over two tenths.
