Ferrari: "This group of people is ready to start a new era"
- GPblog.com
Unlike other teams, Ferrari has changed very little when it comes to the people who work there in the past three years. Marc Gené praises team boss Mattia Binotto for suddenly building a winning car with the same team. According to Gené, the team is ready for a new era in Formula 1.
Ferrari has learned from difficult years
Gené, who is still an ambassador for Ferrari, says Ferrari has not brought in any new big names in recent years. Instead, Binotto has changed tack with the people who were already there at the time he was appointed team boss in 2019.
"When you go through difficult years like we did, you tend to optimize the resources," Gené let it be known at the F1 Nation podcast. According to the Spaniard, you learn more from bad years than from the good ones.
Is Ferrari ushering in a new era?
"Now we have a good car, we are ready for a new era. These are the same people who suffered so much," Gené continued. The former F1 driver admits that they probably can't improve on Mercedes' era. That team became constructors' champion for the eighth time in a row last year.
Gené is asked if Ferrari can contend for the title in 2022 and if that means the Mercedes era is over. "This group of people are ready to open a new era, I don't know if it will be a new era, for sure we have a good car," Gené concludes.
