Message from Sepang Circuit triggers rumours about Malaysian GP
- GPblog.com
The Malaysian Grand Prix disappeared from the Formula One calendar at the end of 2017, but the organization in Sepang is hinting at a possible return. Will we indeed see the race last won by Max Verstappen return to the calendar in 2022?
The Formula 1 season hasn't started yet, but the first cancelled race is already a fact. Due to the invasion of Ukraine, Formula 1 has decided that no Grand Prix will be held in Russia this year and the contracts for the future with Igora Drive have also been torn up. This does mean that F1 will have to look for a replacement to maintain the calendar of 23 races.
On to Malaysia
Portugal and Turkey were mentioned as the biggest contenders to replace the Russian Grand Prix on the calendar, but there may be another option. Indeed, on Twitter, Sepang became trending as fans were eager to see the Malaysian GP return to the calendar. In addition to becoming trending, Malaysia's Tarmac Sports announced on Twitter that the Sepang Circuit was holding an emergency meeting to discuss the arrival of a possible GP.

The rumour mill was further set in motion on Saturday when the official twitter account of the Sepang Circuit got involved. "Anyone mentioning Sepang," the account wondered, before contrasting a motorcycle and a car and ending with a mysterious "hmm...." The race would be in September this year as the race in Sochi was scheduled for the weekend of September 25.
