Russell not thinking about title yet: 'Work on the process'
- GPblog.com
George Russell made the switch in the winter from backmarker team Williams to the constructors' champion of the last eight years, Mercedes. Despite this, Russell is not yet thinking about his first world title.
Russell had and excellent start to his Mercedes career in 2022. The driver drove 209 laps in the first week of testing in Barcelona, which equates to over three full race distances, and set the second fastest time over three days. The only driver faster than Russell was his new teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Title not yet important to Russell
"It’s not even something I’m thinking about, to be honest," Russell says F1.com about a possible first world title. According to 24-year-old Briton, the mindset is still the same as in his time at Williams. This does not change, whether he is fighting for the win, in the midfield or in the rear.
Russell talks about his replacement race in 2020, when he was a one-time replacement for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes. Then it felt just like any other race he lets us know. Racing comes first for Russell and he will see at some point if he has a chance of winning the title. "So, work on the process and worry about everything afterwards," Russell concludes.
