Alfa Romeo have "utmost confidence" in new C42 car for 2022 F1 season
After not producing a positive display in the 2022 Formula 1 winter tests, Alfa Romeo team boss Frédéric Vasseur says he has the "utmost confidence" in the new C42 as the team look to move up the standings with the rule and regulation changes.
During pre-season testing, we saw the Alfa Romeo car but only with a camouflage livery. Now we can finally see the real thing that will grace tracks around the world in 2022. Despite only recording 175 laps, the ninth-best out of all the teams, and not set a top ten fastest time on day three, their team boss is confident they will be able to bounce up the standings.
Alfa Romeo improvements
"The start of the season is always an exciting time, one in which we see the fruit of the work of hundreds of people over a long period of time. The C42 is a car we look forward to seeing racing, not just because it is the first we built in this new regulations cycle, one in which racing should be closer and more thrilling, but because we have the utmost confidence in this car helping the team make a big step forward towards the front of the grid," Vasseur said.
In the 2022 season, Alfa Romeo will have Valtteri Bottas joining the team. The Finnish driver moves from Mercedes after Toto Wolff opted for a driver from the new generation in George Russell. Bottas will team up with Guanyu Zhou, who is the only rookie on the grid.
