Red Bull Racing concluded its three-day program in Barcelona with 258 laps driven and a best time of 1:19.556, set by Sergio Perez in the final afternoon session. Christian Horner is clearly optimistic, calling it an "encouraging start" to the preseason. He also expresses his expectation for the competition in 2022.
The Red Bull team boss finds it a great feeling to be back on the track, and notes that the new cars are, as expected, completely different from their predecessors. He therefore speaks of a process in which the team has to get to know the RB18. "So far the feedback is good. It is behaving as we expected," Horner stated in conversation with Formula1.com.
Horner on competition from Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren
In addition, he discusses the battle that awaits his team with Mercedes, and perhaps also with Ferrari and McLaren. "That's what everyone wants to see," the Brit continues. "You want to see the best drivers in the world fighting wheel to wheel."
"I think Ferrari could be there this year and McLaren is also looking strong," Horner continued. In addition, he has high hopes for George Russell, who Horner believes could just play a key role in the upcoming championship.
