Overview | Red Bull and Ferrari come out strong during first test day
- GPblog.com
Red Bull Racing are in a good position after the first day of testing in Barcelona. Ferrari are also coming on strong, but not all teams were able to hit the track immediately without problems.
Lap times say little during the test days in Formula 1, because teams drive with different tyres and amounts of fuel. Especially the reliability of the new cars is important, which is reflected in the number of laps driven by the teams.
Number of laps driven by F1 teams
Ferrari are in the strongest position after the first day with a combined number of laps of 153. Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc both came into action on Wednesday and are both in the top three in terms of lap times. Red Bull follows in second place in terms of laps driven with Max Verstappen, who managed 147 laps on his first day. The Dutchman set a ninth time, but that doesn't say a lot. Mercedes and Alpine are also in a good position, with 127 laps each.
For Alfa Romeo and Haas, the day was not without problems, as the teams drove only 32 and 43 laps respectively. Hopefully, they can make up for the missed time on Thursday. Lando Norris finished the first day at the top of the timesheet, driving a total of 103 laps for McLaren. You can find the full report of the first day of testing here.
