There has been a lot of talk in recent weeks about the final race of 2021 in Abu Dhabi. The FIA has already made the first changes, but according to Fernando Alonso, this was not necessarily necessary.
Events in Abu Dhabi.
In the 2021 finale, Michael Masi did not seem to interpret the rules in the right way. For example, with one lap to go he allowed the lapped cars to pass between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, so that Verstappen could attack again on the last lap. This the Dutchman did successfully and therefore won the 2021 title instead of Hamilton.
There was much criticism of how Masi handled the situation. So much so that the FIA decided to give him another position within Formula 1. Eduardo Freitas and Niels Wittich are the new race directors with assistance from Herbie Blash.
Alonso not quite in agreement with dismissal Masi
Alonso says according to SpeedWeek.com that FIA president Mohamed Ben Sulayem's approach is not necessarily a bad one. Ben Sulayem recently became president of the FIA and according to Alonso would do a lot to make sure everything is in the right place, but the Spaniard does let it be known that he did not see any mistakes in the last race of 2021.
"Regarding Abu Dhabi, maybe I have a different opinion. I don't think anything went wrong there," Alonso let it be known. The Alpine driver hopes that the structure of the race management has not changed only because of the events in Abu Dhabi.
