It won't come as a surprise to many, but Alpine officially announced the news on Thursday: Otmar Szafnauer has been appointed as the new team boss of the Formula One team.

Szafnauer appointed as new team boss at Alpine

The news was coming, as Szafnauer left as team boss at Aston Martin over the winter. In addition, Alpine carried out a restructuring in January, with Marcin Budkowski and Alain Prost having to leave their top positions. Bruno Famin will head the team's engine department.

The management as it existed until recently is not working, according to CEO Laurent Rossi. "With Otmar and Bruno joining the team, we are moving to a new level for 2022, " he explains on the official website of the team.

Szafnauer, who is transferring from Aston Martin, is also pleased with the new challenge at Alpine. His goal: "To have the team fighting for the championship within the next hundred races," said the new team boss.

Davide Brivio will remain with the team but will take up a position in the junior program, attracting young talents and helping them develop as drivers. A return to MotoGP, where he led Suzuki's factory team, is therefore not yet in the cards.
