Max Verstappen won his first world title in 2021 after a spectacular battle with Lewis Hamilton. Next season he will be one of four drivers with a world title on the grid. According to Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner, there are several other drivers who could soon join this illustrious group.
Horner applauds Verstappen
The fact that Red Bull are overjoyed with Verstappen is no secret. In conversation with WION, Horner once again explained what makes the Dutchman so good. According to the team boss, it is his hunger and determination, combined with a natural talent that makes Verstappen unique. Moreover, the brand new world champion is a real fighter. "You know that if you have Max behind you, he will try everything," he said.
Verstappen made his debut at Toro Rosso in 2015, and was promoted to Red Bull Racing in 2016. Although the Dutchman was invariably mentioned as a future world champion, it wasn't until 2021 that he could really compete with Lewis Hamilton. He managed to cash in on that first opportunity immediately.
Formula 1 champions of the future
At the age of 24, Verstappen is truly world champion who seems to definitively establish a new generation of Formula 1 drivers. According to Horner, Verstappen has a whole generation of drivers around him who can fight for the titles in the coming years. He names Charles Leclerc, George Russell, Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris as the main candidates.
Norris, in particular, calls Horner very interesting. "I think it's good for the sport, and also for the competition. It will be exciting to see how it develops." Verstappen will be driving his eighth season in Formula 1 next year and will try to defend his title. On Wednesday, February 9, the car he will use to do so will be presented.
